We were all excited to finally arrive in San Diego, knowing we were that much closer to being able to see Brian. There was a bit of a mix-up when we got off the highway and we got a bit lost. We ended up at the entrance to MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot) where Brian had spent most of the past 3 months. It was so hard to be so close and not be able to see him! This isn’t the gate we ended up at. I can’t find a picture of it and we didn’t take one. But this is what MCRD looks like.
We got settled at the hotel and Doug and Dad returned the van. So long, Illinois plates. Though I sure do miss the automatic doors.
It took a while to decide on dinner. The guy at the hotel’s front desk gave us recommendations for both Mexican and non-Mexican food. We ended up at The Old Town Mining Company. Was it good! I had tri-tip sliders. The meat was so tender with no grizzle and the slider buns were out of this world. Through in some yummy sweet potato fries (hey, they’re healthy!) and I was set. Alyssa & my mom had macaroni and cheese they said was fabulous. All in all, a wonderful meal.
Thanks for all of your patience as I record these events for my family. And hopefully, you’ll get some good tips on what to do if you’re ever in California!
