It’s been a while since I posted an update about our sweet girl. She has been doing so well. School has been good for her so far this year. She likes her new teacher. He has a fish mounted on the wall with a hook in its mouth. Anytime I ask her about her day, I hear about that fish. Along with the hand motions.
Her speech teacher has been working very hard on getting Jonalyn to speak in complete sentences. And it’s working. Her speech is clearer and slower, unless she’s excited, and it’s great to hear simple sentences coming out of her mouth. She has a long way to go, but it’s so much fun to hear her able to communicate better and better.
We had another sleep-deprived EEG done shortly after we got home from California and got the results a couple of weeks ago. It showed less abnormal activity in her brain while she is awake. That is a great thing! There is still abnormal electrical activity in the part of the brain where her seizure originated while she is drowsy and sleeping. Not so great. The Keppra is controlling the seizures but we aren’t in the clear yet. So the doctor added another seizure medication to help calm down the activity at night. This is when your brain assimilates what you’ve learned during the day. If we can aid that process, we might be able to help her learn better. Always a good thing in my book.
And, as always, she is happy (except when you pick her up from school causing her to miss riding the bus home that day!) and sweet. She loves cheering on her big sister at volleyball games!

Always wonderful to hear when God’s earthly medicines work!
