On Monday, which promised to be the warmest day of the week, we decided to go to the old logging camp. It was a nice drive through the Northwoods, including part of the national forest. We saw lots of trucks loaded down with logs. Once we arrived, we took a ten minute train ride behind a steam locomotive to the camp. It was Jonalyn’s first ever train trip and she loved it. She wasn’t so high on the loud whistle, though. Hopefully she learned the word choo-choo. Once at the camp, we went on a forest tour and learned about logging, went to the logging museum, and visited the petting zoo. The favorite part for the kids was the kittens. I think they could have spent the entire day there.
We came back to our cabin to rest a little bit. Jonalyn and Alyssa fed the duck some old bread. Jonalyn loved that. In fact, she woke up this morning chattering, “The duck eat. And Alyssa.” Then she made a throwing motion, so I know she remembered that! Then the girls went swimming again. Alyssa jumped off the raft again and again. Once frozen, they got out and played in the sand.
For dinner we made chicken kabobs on the grill. Yummy! Then we had s’mores. What a treat. While Doug was roasting his marshmallow, a chipmunk ran right over his foot! I was glad he had his tennis shoes on. Later in the evening, Doug, Alyssa, my dad and I went and took a sunset cruise around the lake. Alright, it wasn’t a cruise – just an aluminum fishing boat, but fun nonetheless. My guilty pleasure this week is getting HGTV. I LOVE watching that channel, especially the show “House Hunters”.
We have another big day planned. Hopefully I can get an internet connection again and post more later. Here are some pictures from Monday.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! Looks like you are having a wonderful time, in spite of the cold weather. It’s amazing the temperatures kids will still swim at!
