Outside my window…a perfect spring day – blue skies, 50 degrees, the snow from the weekend is gone. It’s been an exceptionally nice spring this year. There was a black barn cat in the yard earlier and Rocky went crazy – tail fluffed, nose pressed against the window.
I am thinking…about not getting overwhelmed with all I have to do. The Steven Curtis Chapman song “One Heartbeat at a Time” came to my mind last night and helped me so much.
You’re up all night with a screaming baby
You run all day at the speed of life
And every day you feel a little bit less
Like the beautiful woman you are
So you fall into bed when you run out of hours
And you wonder if anything worth doing got done
Oh, maybe you just don’t know
Or maybe you’ve forgotten
You, you are changing the world
One little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh, you, you may not see it now
But I believe that time will tell
How you, you are changing the world
One little heartbeat at a time
I am thankful for…God’s sustaining grace.
From the learning rooms…we only have 33 days of homeschooling left. We’ve had a couple of pretty normal weeks in a row and gotten so much done. I feel like a better teacher now! Brian has a research paper due in May and we’ve started working on it together. His topic: The Effects of the Holocaust on Jewish Survivors. And I really think he can pull it off! I love doing research. My mother called me my father’s child when I told her that!
From the kitchen…oven fried fish for dinner tonight. The ribs in the crock pot last week were delicious – tender and the homemade BBQ sauce was yummy. That’s a recipe I’ll use again.
I am creating…a neat and organized house. I didn’t say clean, just neat and organized š though most of the organization will have to wait until school is over.
I am wearing…jeans, a white turtleneck, a forest green swing cardigan, a blue fleece (that will come off when I go into public, but right now I’m cold).
I am reading…”Crown and Jewel”. It’s the book Alyssa is reading for literature. Thought it’d be a good idea if I read it, too!
I am hoping…to hear good things from Brian’s parent/teacher conferences tonight. So far his grades look pretty good.
I am praying…that the small gains we’ve seen in Brian’s attitude and study habits continue. And that he does well on his science test today.
I am going…to try to fit in a walk this afternoon. I don’t know when, but maybe I can. It’s too nice of a day to waste.
Around the house…it’s looking pretty good. The floors need to be swept, but things are pretty well picked up. Amazing! And such a good feeling.
I am hearing…the printer working as I print off Alyssa’s literature assignment. The kitchen table creaking as Alyssa puts her weight on it. The child can’t sit in a chair properly. But I remember Brian being that way at this age.
One of my favorite things…being on top of things. I haven’t felt that way lately, but I do enjoy the feeling. It will come back some day, I hope.
A few plans for the rest of the week: I’m going to take Brian to get an application for a summer job this afternoon, then off to parent/ teacher conferences. Tomorrow is swimming for Alyssa, therapy for Jonalyn, and a church meeting for Doug. Whew. Thursday is…nothing!!! Friday after work I’m having lunch with a dear friend. It didn’t work out last week, but that gave me something to look forward to this week
