We had a quiet and untypical Labor Day. Saturday morning Doug and I went kayaking, just the two of us, on a river not far from our home. The weather was cool and rather breezy – in other words, perfect. It felt like fall. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and being together.
You can tell we’ve been married for nearly 22 years, because we paddled along pretty well. We only went in the grass on purpose. This river is wide, so it’s easy to stay on course!
We extended our “date” and went to a local nursery. I love this place because it has so many perennials, and ones that are different than most other places. You’ll never guess what we ended up with. Never. A cactus that is native to Wisconsin. I’d never heard of it before. It will survive the cold, but we have to try to keep it from getting too wet. Guess this morning’s downpour wasn’t good for it, huh? And we also came away with a hardy hibiscus. Soon we’ll be living in a tropical paradise 😉
Today we took a drive up to our property with my parents who had never been there. What a lot of fun we had. We took our time and stopped at all kinds of antique shops and other fun places. Somehow we managed to control ourselves and bought nothing. We got some subs and had a picnic.
Then we slathered ourselves in Off and went for a hike. It was so peaceful and beautiful. My dad and Alyssa had to check out Doug’s deer stand.
We took our time on the way home again, stopping for Italian for dinner. No hamburgers and potato salad for us this year! And now summer is officially over. Fall has begun.
