I’ve loved all the guests I’ve been able to host lately. They all have such interesting stories. Tanya Stowe, this week’s guest, is no different. Find out what inspired her new release, Santa Fe Sunrise.
Welcome, Tanya. What inspired you to write Santa Fe Sunrise?
I’ve spent most of my life in Southern California but I was born in Southern Colorado and lived there for many years. My parents were married in Taos, New Mexico. My mother told me stories about this unique little town, tucked at the base of the mountains with its pueblos and art. My father filled my head with stories about Indian burial grounds and the Navaho women who used to visit the Safeway where my aunt worked. We traveled extensively over the Four Corners area. But somehow, in all of this interesting mix, I never actually visited Santa Fe until I was an adult.
On our first motorhome trip, my husband and I visited the Chaco National Monument. I was absolutely stunned to learn about this incredibly complicated society that built six and seven story buildings out of rock…a society that I, an avid history buff, had never heard or read about. We spent an entire day at Chaco asking questions, roaming through the ruins, climbing the hill to look at their observatory and gazing back down at their massive kivas.
A few days later, we finally traveled through Santa Fe and I fell in love. I knew I just had to write a story that contained the elements that fascinated me…the rich Spanish Colonial history and architecture, pothunters and the Chaco culture they raid and most of all, the land itself. Sometimes stark. Elegantly simple and shaded with colors seen nowhere else in nature, delicate purples, pinks and mauves. SANTA FE SUNRISE is that story.
Rafaela De Silva is a daughter of the rich Spanish culture of New Mexico with ties to the Pueblo tribes. She embodies all that is Santa Fe with her distinctive swirling skirts and bold western styles and her love of art and Indian crafts.
Brett Fraser is also a lover of art but he is caught in the web of illegal pothunters who desecrate Indian graves and destroy priceless archaeological sites. Together Rafaela and Brett unravel the mystery surrounding them. Hopefully, their story also helps to capture and ensnare readers in Santa Fe’s allure. I certainly fell under its enigmatic spell.
Sounds enchanting! Thank you so much for joining us!
