I cheated with the letter K the first time around, so I’m going to cheat again. Ready?
The letter K is for…
KABIN
Bad, I know. Last weekend, my BFF and I ran away from home. As a mom, you need to do that every know and again. This was the first time I’d been to the KABIN without Doug. I had to “unwinterize” it myself. Job accomplished! Lisa started the fire. She should get a Boy Scout badge for that.
We ran into trouble when our water ran out. Thankfully, I had just finished my shower. We called Doug, troubleshot and everything. We turned circuit breakers & water valves on and off. Jiggled the cord to the water pump. Nothing. Oh well, we stayed up until 1 am chatting. We had fun even without water!
I made pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. So yummy! Trouble was, we couldn’t wash the dishes. Doug told us to call a well guy. Finally found one that was open, but the repairman was out on a call. We were told he’d call us back. In the meantime, Doug called again and wanted me to check the outlet by the water pump, to make sure it didn’t have a short. I climb down to that icky crawl space again with my hair dryer to see if it worked in the outlet. My hand brushed the cord to unplug the pump, and it started running. Oh, what a beautiful sound. We had lovely hot water the rest of the weekend.
With that taken care of, we were off to the spa. The week before had been Lisa’s birthday, so I treated her to a facial. I got a pedicure and sparkly toe nails.
They don’t sparkle in the picture, but believe me, they do in real life. Jonalyn thinks they’re the best! We couldn’t believe we’d found such a great, affordable spa in a tiny little Wisconsin town. And what’s a birthday celebration without shopping. We came home with many purchases, but Lisa is the queen of bargains, so we didn’t pay much.
Off then to an early dinner because we didn’t want to be on the roads on St. Patrick’s night. Yummy restaurant. We split an elk burger and an order of coconut shrimp.
Once we returned to the KABIN, we watched Phantom of the Opera and ate chocolate and pretzels.
I treated her to blueberry muffins the next morning before we took a long walk in the woods. It was so warm all weekend and we had a lovely walk. On a sleepy Sunday morning, we heard only the wind in the pines. Ahhh. Unfortunately, it was time to return to reality. We winterized the KABIN again and were off.
It is so relaxing to go to the KABIN. And it’s better when you have a wonderful friend along with you. Thanks, Lisa, for a great weekend at the KABIN.
