Hi there! Welcome to a new year. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. More about that later.
This year, I’m bringing back Wonderful Words. They are too fun to let die. This week, I’ve picked one of my husband’s suggestions – extemporaneous.
The dictionary definition: composed, performed, or uttered on the spur of the moment : impromptu
That seems to sum up my life lately. Everything is impromptu. While it usually refers to speaking and perhaps to music, I can apply it to tonight’s dinner. It’s extemporaneous. I planned to have meatballs in mushroom sauce. Silly me didn’t buy mushrooms. So, tonight, we’re having hamburger & noodles. Basically, you brown your hamburger, throw in a can of cream of mushroom soup and some cooked egg noodles and you have dinner. Gotta love it.
One of my resolutions this year is to be less extemporaneous. With my writing and now my speaking taking off, I need to be organized. As in super organized. Not my forte, as you can tell.
Hopefully, my speaking won’t be extemporaneous. I find that if I treat speaking more like teaching, I’m more comfortable. That means I don’t write down every word I want to say, but I do have a detailed, detailed outline. Of course, my Sunday school teaching has been a little more extemporaneous than I would like, too. Good things these kids are third graders and don’t mind a teacher who wings it.
So, what are some of your resolutions this year? Do you want to be more or less extemporaneous?
