This time of year is perfect to catch up with reading. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a snowy winter day, curled up in front of the fireplace with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. Mm, the perfect winter day.
A perfect book to read to do just that would be Things We Didn’t Say by Amy Lynn Green. First, let’s hear a little bit about it.
Headstrong Johanna Berglund, a linguistics student at the University of Minnesota, has very definite plans for her future . . . plans that do not include returning to her hometown and the secrets and heartaches she left behind there. But the US Army wants her to work as a translator at a nearby camp for German POWs.
Johanna arrives to find the once-sleepy town exploding with hostility. Most patriotic citizens want nothing to do with German soldiers laboring in their fields, and they’re not afraid to criticize those who work at the camp as well. When Johanna describes the trouble to her friend Peter Ito, a language instructor at a school for military intelligence officers, he encourages her to give the town that rejected her a second chance.
As Johanna interacts with the men of the camp and censors their letters home, she begins to see the prisoners in a more sympathetic light. But advocating for better treatment makes her enemies in the community, especially when charismatic German spokesman Stefan Werner begins to show interest in Johanna and her work. The longer Johanna wages her home-front battle, the more the lines between compassion and treason become blurred–and it’s no longer clear whom she can trust.

Hi, the things I love about winter is when we happen to get snow here in west Texas, and we had a very good amount of snow this year or I should say this past year, it was like a couple of days after Christmas and we got about 8 1/2 inches of snow, which is really alot of snow for here. I love winter also because Christmas falls on winter and Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Thank you for the chance at your Awesome book. May you and your family have a Very Happy and Blessed New Year.

As cliched as it is, my favorite part of winter is curling up under a warm blanket and reading! Extra joyfulness if it’s snowing!

I love snow days! I’m a teacher, and we do all kinds of rituals to try to provoke the snow to fall. Wear pj’s backwards, put an ice cube in the toilet, put a spoon under your pillow, white crayon in the freezer….. we’re desperate for those snow days.

When it’s over! LOL I have to admit though, I do love the way God’s peace surrounds me when I step out into a pristine snow covered world. The kid in me can’t resist turning my face up & catching some flakes on my tongue.

I guess one practical thing I like about winter is simply the abating of many warm weather pollen issues. Fall is actually my favorite season of the year, comfort wise, and with the beautiful changing of the leaves.
