These sound really interesting! What inspired you to write the series?
My Relentless Series birthed from wanting to write again and praying for an idea. God inspired something amazing—the story of Ruth in 1968 Viet Nam and then bringing her to small town Indiana. One standalone story.
But it didn’t end there.
My research reminded me that Boaz’s mother was Rahab. So I looked at where our twentieth century history would be based on my Boaz character’s age. I’d mentioned father brought home a southern girl to Breadville—not considering all this at the time. But when I found the B.E.F. (“Bonus Army”) story, I discovered the connection.
Before I could write that story, though, one Sunday my hubs had the truck radio tuned to the oldies station. “Wedding Bell Blues” came on and I was taken by how that title would make a great romance story. About that time, my Boaz character’s sister—Thea—decided she needed her story told. So I wrote the novella, Wedding Bell Blues , about what happens with her and Professor Phil Carpenter. Besides, I enjoyed that time period too much to walk away.
But then there remained that writing date with my Rahab character. Plus Relentless Heart readers asked about what happened with the reporter and the president at the beginning of the book. One thing led to another and Relentless Joy will release October 15 th .
Yet, something wasn’t right. Though I believed this trilogy finished things, my beta readers wanted more—what about the Naomi character? What happened to the reporter and the president? That’s when the seed of a Christmas novella bloomed. Silver Bell Christmas , launching November 17 th , will tie up all those ends when my Naomi character gets a second chance with love. And wait until you see what happens with Natalia the reporter and the President. Oh, yeah.
Jennifer Lynn Cary likes to say you can take the girl out of Indiana, but you can’t take the Hoosier out of the girl. She is also a direct descendant of Davy Crockett, which along with her Indy upbringing, adds fodder to her books. She and her husband make their home in Arizona where she shares her tales of heritage and small town life memories with her grandchildren.
