I am very blessed to have my critique partner, Diana Brandmeyer, on my blog this week! Please join me in welcoming her and thanking her for sharing her story, A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory. Let’s find out a little bit about the book first, shall we?
She’s running from grief. He’s running from war memories. Can they find love on this dangerous journey west?
Cornelia’s parents send her to America hoping to heal her heart. Accompanied by her protective brother, they’ll travel by covered wagon to the Colorado Territory to search for gold. When Cornelia meets a man who seems as troubled as the friend she lost, it seems she might be given a second chance to save someone before it’s too late.
Jake once a prisoner of the Union Army, leaves Tennessee in disgrace. He wants nothing more than to find enough gold to start a new life. The last thing he wants is to fall in love.
Can the feisty Cornelia make him leave his past behind?
As the wagon train brings them together, will they look beyond past promises and old pain and discover treasure worth more than gold? You will love this sequel to A Bride’s Dilemma in Friendship, Tennessee because everyone craves a second chance. If you like stories about the Oregon Trail, happily ever-after, and Christian romance, this book is for you. Start your journey with Cornelia and Jake today!
Diana, this sounds like a wonderful read! What inspired you to write this story?
When I wrote a Bride’s Dilemma in Friendship, Tennessee I left behind few broken characters that needed their story told. One of them was Jake Miles. He was indeed a rascal fighting against his actions during the Civil War.
It was important to me not to leave him languishing in the land of hurt. His character would not leave me alone wanting me to help him find peace. Despite attempts from his mother to marry him to a woman he did not love he chose to leave his family behind thinking there was nothing left for him there.
The West beckoned to him like a campfire on a frigid night. Jake packed his bag, sold his horse and said his goodbyes. His father disowned him, and his mother begged him to stay but he couldn’t.
I chose to send him west on a wagon train because many at that time were leaving civilized areas for the unknown and a greater promise.
One summer we took our three boys in our RV on the Oregon Trail. While we slept in comfort, had no problem finding food, and never got caught in a rainstorm, I got a taste of what it was like for those who took the road before me. I knew I wanted to write a story about someone during the period of history when he Oregon Trail bustled. However, Jake didn’t want to go to Oregon he wanted to find gold. Which worked out fine for me since I was also intrigued by Colorado history and the mining towns. Put the two together and found my setting for Jake. The poor man didn’t know what he was getting into when I also introduced him to a girl from Prussia who came with an overprotective brother. Jake makes a bargain that he cannot keep in a Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory.
