She wrote a Post-Apocalyptic Thriller story called PULSE.
Today, Linore is here to share the story behind her story.
No one forgets the day the world stopped.
Andrea, Lexie and Sarah are ordinary teens until a mysterious electromagnetic pulse hits earth and knocks out all technology. Forced to fight for survival in a world gone dark, the girls discover there are more things to worry about than homework and boyfriends.
In this suspenseful Christian tale, each girl and her family must pit faith and grit against dwindling supplies and ruthless marauders. With no relief in sight, can they keep hope alive?

What inspired you to write this story?
When my
sweet historical romance series was published, I never dreamed my next would be
YA/dystopian. What a switch in genres! So, how did I go from one end of the
writing spectrum to another? Blame it on an idea that refused to
die. I read a headline about how close the earth came to suffering a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, in 2012. We missed the worst effects of a solar flare by a hair (in space terms
PULSE, the first book in my PULSE EFFEX Series, was born. In it, three teenage girls and their families have to struggle in a world without technology–not even working cars. That means food and all other supplies quickly run out and survival is the name of the game. I thought I’d only write one book about it, but readers wrote to me and asked for a sequel. Their enthusiasm proved to be the catalyst for two (RESILIENCE and DEFIANCE.)
Each one considers the question, “Where is God in the midst of darkness?”
I believe it’s a question we all face and must answer at one time or other in life.
The trilogy is in an e-book box set, or available individually either in e-book or paperback. PULSE is also on Audible.
Sounds like a page-turner! Thanks for sharing your story.

That the power is out permantly and survival has to kick in.
Debbie Mitchell says
This entire series is awesome!
Linore Rose Burkard says
Thanks, ladies and thank you, DEB!
It was important to me to write a YA series without witchcraft, vampires, magic and spells, werewolves, etc. There’s so much that is dark on the YA shelves. I wouldn’t call the PULSE books light reading, but they’re clean, at least!

I love that it’s post-apocalyptic and written for teens. This is just the type of book I love to read with my daughter. While I don’t restrict her from most books, it’s nice to know that this one is clean and written from a Christian perspective.
Linore Rose Burkard says
Thanks, Dianna! I don’t know how old your daughter is, but I should say that even though the content is clean (no sex, profanity, and has a strong Christian message, etc.) there are heavy themes. I suppose being post-apocalyptic would imply that, but I wanted to make sure it’s understood. Thanks for your interest!
Linore Rose Burkard says
Thanks, Dianna! There are some heavy elements–it’s post-apocalyptic, after all–but I think reading with your daughter is an awesome idea. Very special, when moms and kids read together. (Or dads and kids, for that matter.)
Blessings. 🙂
