Gail Sattler is our guest today.
She wrote a book called The Other Neighbor. She’s here to share the story behind her story.
Cheryl Richardson doesn’t know that her landlord who owns the other half of the duplex where she lives is plotting to build a bomb—but the FBI does.
In order to discover what her landlord is planning to blow up, agent Steve Gableman moves next door to get closer to Cheryl to learn what she knows, namely the target and motive, so they can stop it.
But when Steve involves himself in every area of her life, including her dog, will Cheryl be the one to explode?

What inspired you to write this book?
This book is based on a true event about a planned bombing. When my husband owned a web design business, one of his customers who was the owner of a hydroponics store, suddenly disappeared. His store continued operating, but they stopped paying their bills. We thought this very unusual because even though I’d never met the man in person, over the phone he seemed like a very nice man, and he always had previously paid his bills on time.
After a while of not paying, the store suddenly closed. It was then that we discovered the owner had been building bombs, and I won’t say the target here because that would give away my plot. The FBI had been investigating him, and when they gathered the evidence they needed, he was arrested, tried, and convicted. His store closed, and business ceased, of course.
The Other Neighbor is inspired by that, the hydroponics store owner plotting and building bombs. If the FBI were investigating, what would they do, and who would they talk to? Now that I know what happened, I remember that the FBI did phone and speak to my husband, without saying why. I would think that in addition to business associates, the FBI would also talk to the neighbors…
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing the story behind your story.

All my stories are based on reality, but this one was really specific, as this event really happened. It was fun setting up all my background details leading up to the resolution.
