And now without further adieu, please welcome Kimberly Rose Johnson. This week, she’s sharing about her latest release, Island Hope. Here’s a little bit about it.
Metal sculptor Hope Michaels gave up on art when her creativity was zapped by another. Burying herself in her electrical contracting business, Hope takes a job on Wildflower Island. She never imagines that a job at the Wildflower Resort will turn everything in her life upside down. But that’s exactly what happens when her best friend and employer, Piper, plays matchmaker.
A lonely widower throws all his energy into raising his teenage daughter, but when he is promoted to manager of the Wildflower Resort, things at home don’t go as smoothly as planned. Worried about his relationship with his daughter, he seeks advice from a feisty-but-sweet newcomer. Will she help smooth his path or will things only get more complicated?
- Is Wildflower Island based on a real place? Wildflower Island was inspired by a real island, but it’s not real. Anderson Island in Washington State was my inspiration, but that island is too small and didn’t quite work for my story, so I created Wildflower Island.
- The Wildflower Resort sounds like quite the place. Is it based in fact or is it purely fiction? Purely fiction. However, I think it was inspired by my experiences at various resorts.
- How do you decide what pieces to take from these real places and what pieces to leave out? Great question! I think it’s simply if it fits the story it stays and if it doesn’t it goes. All of the places on the island are fictional, but have been inspired by places I’ve been to. For example I was camping once and walked into a general store that was similar to the one I describe in the story. I wish I could remember where it was, but the memory is very faint, more like an impression.
- How does this book differ from the others in the series? The fun thing about Island Hope is that all the characters we’ve gotten to know in the series appear in this book. We get to see what is going on in their lives and how they are doing which is fun. We also get to meet new people and see how they become part of the community on the island.
- Are there any more to come? There are no more books contracted in this series, so I’d say no. It’s really hard to say goodbye to The Wildflower B&B Romance series, but I’ve contracted a new series, so it’s time to let go and move on.
- What is the most challenging aspect of writing for you? For me the last quarter of the book is the greatest challenge. So much needs to happen and I have to make sure everything gets wrapped up in a satisfying way. That is always where my writing slows down and I tend to procrastinate just a bit more than usual. LOL

Mimi says
Having lived in WA for 12 yrs, I love that she took some of what she experienced and shared it in the book. I remember going across the Sound to a women’s retreat, and as soon as we got of the ferry, we walked around some of the shops in the area. There was an art store, and there was a painting that looked just like me and my daughter. I’ve always regretted not finding a way to purchase it. I like that all of her characters from previous books show up in this one. It’s fun when authors do that. Thanks for sharing this interview.
Kimberly Rose says
Hi Mimi, I’m sorry you missed out on that painting. Maybe it will turn up again some day.
