I’ve had my nose to the grindstone the past week or so, desperately trying to make my deadline. I did take a bit of a break over the weekend. Doug and Jonalyn went to the cabin on Friday morning. I worked at church, then went to Alyssa’s volleyball game, which was on the way to the cabin. They lost in 3 sets, but played the other team close, so it was good.
By the time we arrived, my sister, BIL and 3 nieces were there from Illinois. We had a great time. Saturday, the girls went to the flea market and bought lots of good produce and some bakery from the Mennonites. Then we did a little shopping at the dollar store. After lunch, everyone headed to the lake. We love the beach they have there. The ladies didn’t go in the water, but everyone else had a great time. The kids were beat when we got home. We had shrimp on the barbie for dinner and it was great. So was the corn we got from the flea market.
For the first time, we used the fire pit at the cabin and had smores. Brian called while we were outside and my phone was inside charging. We missed the call. Boo hoo. But he sounded great and now I have a voice mail that I can play over and over.
We went to church on Sunday morning and came home to start dinner. My parents came (my dad actually had to preach at my sister’s church, even though they were with us!) and we had a great time playing ladder ball and relaxing on the porch while we waited for our pork roast to bake. We finished up with a surprise birthday party for my sister.
We had brats and turkey burgers on the grill for lunch before everyone left. The girls didn’t want to go home. The cousins have such a great time together. And we might not see them until Christmas now.
What did you all do for labor day?
