August is such a strange juxtaposition, especially in Wisconsin. Summer is rapidly coming to a close. Today, the farmer down the street was harvesting his wheat. Already? Um, yes, it’s August.
Tonight is the first Packer’s pre-season game. Already? Didn’t football season just end? Kidding. Only kidding. You wouldn’t believe the number of Packer’s jerseys I saw today, though. The entire state is hyped up for it.
We had our first taste of locally grown corn this week. De. Lish. It’s still summer when the corn comes in, but you know that, by the time corn season is over, it will be fall. Or pretty close to it.
The Wisconsin State Fair is drawing to a close. Cream puffs. Cows. Super chamois. The last big blowout of the summer. And it’s almost over for the year already.
The back to school items on the store shelves are dwindling. (Note to self: Must go school shopping before the girls have to put their papers in last year’s folders. What a travesty.)
It’s [6:38] and, though still light, not as light as it was two months ago at [6:38] in the evening.
So, we’ll grab every last little bit that’s left of the summer. We’re painting the shutters (oh, to have Packer green shutters again!), filling in the new garden spot with topsoil, going fishing, and choosing our last few pedicure colors carefully. In anticipation of the fall, I bought a hoodie online yesterday. And I’m thinking about making hot chocolate mix. No, I’m not really kidding about that last one!
How do you mark the changing of the seasons?
