It’s always so much fun for me to have my dear friend Andrea Boeshaar here. She has some very interesting stories to share about her latest series, Fabric of Time.
My 3-book fictional series, Fabric of Time, is based on my family’s Norwegian heritage. One thing in particular inspired my idea, namely my grandmother’s poem titled, My Mother’s Mother. She wrote it in the 1960s for a college assignment. After her 5 children were born my grandmother returned to school to her degree and that, in her day and in the rural community in which s he lived, took gumption to say the least.
But back to the poem — it mournfully depicts the long, uncomfortable journey from Norway, across the sea, to America. Many immigrants took ill and died, among them children. Once they arrived on America’s East Coast, they endured a hot, stuffy, and seemingly endless train ride to Wisconsin.
While I chose to merely touch upon character Kristin Eikaas’s journey in book 1, Threads of Hope, my grandmother’s poem is a heart-wrenching reminder that my ancestors struggled and sacrificed so I can enjoy the American dream and do what I love to do — write.
In book 2, Threads of Faith, the saga of the Sundberg family continues, albeit a generation later in 1877.
Both books 1 & 2 are available now in both e-book and traditional print formats.
Book 3, Threads of Love, is set in 1902 and it’ll be on bookstore shelves in May 2013. The story wraps up the fictitious family saga.
