One of the areas I need to work on in my macro edits for Snow on the Tulips is giving my hero a fatal flaw. Basically, my hero is too perfect. Now ladies – wouldn’t you like a man like that?

The trouble is, none of us is perfect. If you are married or dating or know any of the male species, you know your hero is not too perfect.

In literature. heroes need a fatal flaw – the one thing that is the thorn in their side, the internal problem they need to solve. This is a way to help readers identify with the characters. Throughout the book, there needs to be growth in the characters until the hero (mostly) overcomes his fatal flaw.

This is what we are all like. This is a fallen and sinful world. We all have a fatal flaw (or two or three or many, many more). The amazing thing is that the blood of Jesus erases all of our fatal flaws. When the Father looks at us, he doesn’t see our fatal flaws, only the righteousness of his Son imparted to us.

Then He sends the Holy Spirit to sanctify us. He is the strength for our growth, our journey of sanctification. We will not be perfect until we reach heaven, but we can change and strive to become more like Jesus, through His power in us.
