Everyone has this person – the one who links the family together. They pass news and information on between all the family members. Perhaps this is becoming obsolete with the advent of Facebook and other social media. In the past, though, this family member provided a crucial service.
Doug’s grandmother was this link for us. When Doug talked to her on the phone, he not only got all of her news, but also the news of his aunt and various cousins. We knew who was sick, who moved or got a different job.
Who will now step up to be that person in the family? The thought has crossed my mind with my family as well, as my parents and aunts & uncles all age.
It’s so important not to lose those family ties. You family will always be your family, no matter what. As we scatter across the country and even around the world, it’s more important than even to maintain those family ties – the glue that holds us together, that links us to our past and determines, in a way, our future.
Does your family have a “link” person?
