I know that I have to have peace and quiet and uninterrupted time to be able to write. Somehow, I thought I could edit with the TV on and children running around and supper bubbling on the stove. Guess what? I was WRONG! I think part of the reason that I’m having such a difficult time with editing is because I’m too distracted. I tell myself I need the internet on so I can do my research, but I end up researching everything except what I need to. So, a couple of days this week I managed to hole up for three hours or so, leave the internet off, and do nothing but edit. I actually made some progress and feel much better about my progress. I had set a deadline of March 1 to have this proposal and manuscript to the editor who requested it, but that won’t happen. I’ll be lucky to have it done by April 1. My agent reassured me, though, that she would rather see it take me a little longer to get the manuscript in and have it be good and marketable than to rush and get a rejection. But I won’t take that to mean that I can goof off! I promise, I won’t! Maybe I’ll even change my counter to reflect chapters edited rather than words written. Anyway, I just sent off chapter 19 to my critique partners. So far I have 35 chapters written though that will increase a little bit. That means I’m over half way. Hooray! Keep watching and I’ll keep you posted with how it is going.
