Today I am thankful for the Sabbath rest the Lord gives his people. I have six days in which to do my work. He gets one day a week as His own. We work and work and work, always on the go. Stressful. Unhealthy. Not what God had in mind for His people. Especially when I was young, I chafed at not being able to go to the store with my friends or to a sporting event or any such thing. As I’ve gotten older, I see the good in resting. Not only the good, but also the joy in it all. I plan my week that I don’t need to stop at the store on Sunday, or get gas in the car, or clean my house. On the Sabbath, we go to Sunday school and church, have a time of fellowship over a meal with family and friends, extend hospitality to others, participate in acts of mercy, take a nap ;), take a walk, and worship again in the evening. Then I am refreshed and ready to work for the Lord for another six days.
Thank you, Father, for providing this opportunity for your children to rest and enjoy you.
