First thing after we were up and going, all of us except for Brian went to take Jonalyn for a pony ride. She’s seen the horses here and has been so excited about them. So we decided to see how she would do on a horse. We were afraid she would freak out, but that wasn’t the case.
The woman in charge of the ride was what you would think as the typical cowgirl. But she was very sweet. We explained all of Jonalyn’s needs and she assured us she would help Jonalyn out. She accomodated us wonderfully, really taking her time with Jonalyn. She rode a gray pony named Smokin’. The woman walked beside her and they went around the corral a couple of times. No pony going in circles – this was the real thing! Jonalyn loved it. She was enthralled with it. No fear. She climbed right up on the pony and shouted in delight the entire time, making sure her daddy saw her. She waved every time she saw us. Her remark when she finished: “Horsies fun!”
Shortly after this we checked out of the room and headed for the pool. Brian went to the lounge to be able to get wi-fi. The girls and Doug swam while I watched and took pictures. It was a nice pool with a shallow kiddie pool area. The water was pretty cold, though.
Then it was off to the corral for me, Brian and Alyssa to ride. I had a black horse named Elaine, Brian had a white horse named Rebecca and Alyssa had a brown horse named Dallas. We were told that we had to make the horses respect the personal space of the horse in front of us or we might get kicked. Well, Elaine didn’t want to do that at all. She had a mind of her own. The ride was beautiful, but someone should have warned me that we would be going high up on ridges. I mean, a narrow path, just wide enough for the horse, a single sagebrush plant on either side, then nothing. I admit, I was freaking out. Very, very scared. I felt like I was falling. The scenery however, was beautiful. Gorgeous. I tried to enjoy as much as I could. Brian and Alyssa really enjoyed it. They are very good horsemen. Alyssa is talking about taking horseback riding lessons now and maybe getting a horse. We’ll see 😉
And of course, Jonalyn had to get in on the act when we were finished and got to give our horses a treat.
On our way out of Grand Teton Park, we stopped at Leek’s Marina and Pizzeria on Jackson Lake. It was good pizza and a beautiful view.
Then it was back through Yellowstone to Cody. The trip seemed to take forever. We were all tired and just had pie and ice cream for dinner.

I love horse-riding and I’m glad you got to ride in such lovely surroundings. I’m also glad Jonalyn enjoyed it so much!
