We all slept in, which felt great. Brian & Alyssa, being a teen & tween, slept longer than the rest of us, so Doug, Jonalyn & I went out and walked around. Doug wanted to take some pictures. My contacts were really bothering me and I kept fooling with them trying to make them more comfortable. We decided to walk up Lunch Tree Hill for a nice view. Along the way, I lost my right contact. I was playing with it and then it was gone. No hope of finding it. Fortunately, I have mono-vision. I see distance with my left eye and up close with my right eye. I can see to read and work on the computer, but things in the 4-6 foot range are a little fuzzy. I have glasses, but if I wear those, I can’t wear my sunglasses. And the weather has been perfect, so I need them. Sigh.
We all finally got up and going and headed out for lunch at Signal Mountain Lodge. The food was much better there than where we were staying. We should have had dinner there on Sunday night. We all ate lightly, but it was good.
Then we headed out, driving along the park road, stopping & taking pictures along the way. This is Grand Teton Mountain.
This is Mount Moran.
See the glacier?
We took a short hike, following String Lake down to Jenny Lake. What a pretty walk! The elevations weren’t bad, but the path was quite rocky for Jonalyn. We had to hold her hand tightly to keep her from falling. This is where the river flows into Jenny Lake.
In the evening, we enjoyed a picnic dinner and float trip down the Snake River. Wow, it was spectacular. I know I keep using that word, but I can’t think of anything else that comes close to describing all we’ve seen. We met at the launch site, then were driven to the Triangle X Ranch where we had BBQ chicken, cowboy beans, green beans, corn bread, salad, and chocolate chip cookies. Yum.
Our guide was James, from Maryland and Oak Brook, Illinois. What a small world! We were in a raft with a family from Texas with four kids.
It was very windy. The windiest trip our guide has ever been on. Aren’t we special? You can see him straining against the oars. He earned his pay on our trip.
We saw ducks, white pelicans, blue heron, mule deer, and quite a few bald eagles.
Some more scenery. All in all: magnificent.
