As I said, we loved the trip between Cody and Yellowstone along a river. There were all kinds of beautiful log homes and even a log church. We stopped at the Buffalo Bill Dam. Doug, Brian & Alyssa went up close to see it. I stayed a safe distance away.
We stopped along the churning river and climbed the rocks along the edge. Even Jonalyn had to get out and get in on the action.
We were almost to the entrance of Yellowstone when we saw a bunch of cars stopped along the edge of the road. We found out why – a young moose was feeding by the river. It was not scared of us at all. Most of the animals here are used to humans and quite unaffected by them.
Our first stop in Yellowstone was at Sylvan Lake. It was beautiful. We all put our hands in and commented about how cold the water was. Jonalyn put her hand in and said, “It’s wet.”
Next we stopped at LeHardy’s Rapids. We saw a white pelican here.
The Mud Volcano smelled strongly of sulfur and was very hot. All of this is so strange and amazing. We walked a steep climb, Jonalyn in her stroller. A buffalo crossed the boardwalk in front of Brian by maybe 30 feet or so.
On the road to the Upper Falls we saw an elk. What a beautiful, majestic creature!
The boys saw this black bear.
The Upper Falls. Wow!
This is Steamboat Geyser. It spurts minor eruptions quite frequently. There were many sulfur springs in the area.
Next to the Great Fountain Geyser was this one with a volcano-shaped dome. We stopped to take a picture. Doug was just a little way from the car and it began to erupt. Way cool! And perfect timing. What a treat.
After we finished up here, we headed to Grand Teton National Park. The pictures of the road between the two parks didn’t turn out đ It was spectacular to see these craggy, snow-capped mountains framed by the pine trees. You’ll have to take my word for it.
