None of the pictures we got of Jonalyn before we brought her home showed her with a smile. When we got her, and she finally smiled at us, we noticed that she had some bad teeth. At tooth brushing time that night, we discovered that she had bad spots on several teeth and one tooth in the front that was completely brown and another that was only partially there. We thought the dentist would do a lot of tooth pulling when we got home. That wasn’t the case. He said they would fall out soon enough and he wanted them in there to serve as spacers. We were disappointed. Slowly they did start to come out. That partial one came out – happy day. But the really bad brown one was still there in there. The permanent tooth began to come in behind it and it was still only a little loose. I took her back to the dentist and he agreed it needed to come out. He said it was even a little bit infected. She sat well in the chair. It didn’t come out with just the numbing gel, so I held her hand and stroked her hair while he administered the Novocain. She didn’t like the sight of that long needle (who does?! ) but she only squirmed a little when he stuck it in. I didn’t watch that part, but he complimented me on how well I did. He had wanted the hygienist to come in and help, but it is still important for our attachment that she learn to rely on us to be there for her. It came right out and she now has a beautiful new smile.
