We’ve lived out the in country for 11 1/2 years now. Had a lot of near misses with the deer and our cars. Yesterday, we bagged our first one. Doug hit it (or, as Brian says, it hit Doug!) on his way to work. And he did a dousy of a job on it. There was a truck in the lane next to him, blocking his view, so he never saw it. He thinks he hit the deer before he hit the brakes. That would be 45 mph. The deer went flying into the median. There is significant damage to his BRAND NEW truck. Doesn’t that figure? The entire front end is smashed in to the engine. The hood is buckled. The bumper and license plate are “gone”. (The police department just called and they found the license plate PTL!) He brought home the “H” from the front grill, embedded with deer hair, and said that’s all that’s left of the front end.
But the Lord has been good. Doug wasn’t injured at all. People have been seriously hurt and even killed when they hit deer, but he isn’t even sore from the seat belt locking. God’s angels were certainly watching over Doug yesterday. Because of the type of accident, we won’t have to pay a deductible. Our insurance agency is doing a fabulous job so far and we already have the truck in the body shop. We got a good deal on a rental car. And the license plate was found. In all of this, I’m praising our loving Heavenly Father for his tender care and mercies. They are indeed new every morning.
P.S. No pictures. Doug didn’t take any. He told me I could go to the body shop and take some, but maybe I really DON’T want to see how bad all of this was.
