We arrived at the little log cabin in the woods with my parents on Saturday afternoon. It’s really beautiful here. The floor plan is so much like I want if we ever build on our hunting property. There is an open kitchen/dining/living room, a good sized bathroom and a bedroom on the first floor. Big windows look out over the lake. The second floor has 2 bedrooms and a loft. There is a nice deck and steps lead down to our private dock. It’s a great place.
Sunday we went to church on the Indian reservation. It’s a very small church, but the people were very friendly and welcoming. Of course, my dad knows the pastor and some of the people who go there because he has preached there in the past. We stopped for some lunch on the way home. The kids went swimming later in the afternoon. I didn’t even put my big toe in. It looked cold! I’m glad Doug is a little heartier than I am. When they finally got cold, the girls played in the sand for a while.
We had a light lunch in the evening and celebrated Brian’s gottcha day. I can’t believe that it was 14 years ago that I became a mother. He was so tiny. I remember his “thinking” expression as he examined us for the first time. We landed in Hanoi after almost 40 hours of travel. We were supposed to get him the following day, but they changed our schedule. Because of a staph infection in the orphanage, they wanted us to take the babies as soon as possible. I was happy to be getting him so soon, but more than anything I wanted to sleep!
After it got dark, Alyssa and Doug went fishing off the dock. The bats were out. I never saw so many bats in one place at a time before. They were swooping across the water. A couple of times they hit the bobber and twice they skimmed Doug’s foot. I got out of there quickly because bats are the creepiest creatures God created.
Because of my fibromyalgia, I was afraid I wouldn’t sleep well in a strange bed, but I have had two wonderful nights of sleep. I’m actually feeling better. Amazing what a little rest and relaxation will do for you!
Here are some pictures of our first few days here.
