We were rejoicing last week with Jonalyn. As we may never get to celebrate her driver’s license or marriage or the birth of her children, we have chosen to celebrate the small things and accomplishments in her life. And last week we had something to rejoice over. She came home from school and as I was helping her off with her boots, I was talking to her. I asked her if she played in the snow at recess. “Yep,” she replied. Then she continued, “And cookies and cups, Mom, cookies and cups.” I interpret that to mean that they had cookies and something to drink for snack at school. Each day a different child brings in the snack, so I don’t always know what she has. But this was huge – she has never before verbalized what has gone on at school. Even when we ask her yes or no questions about her day, we’re never very sure if her answers are correct. But she willingly shared this with me. Of course, she wouldn’t tell Doug about the cookies and cups! She hasn’t said anything else about school, but we will savor this small victory of hers. Praise the Lord!
