Speed shopping is a term my sister and I developed for how we grocery shop, but I’m sure lots of you do it, too. With the cost of gas, I can’t make an extra trip to go to the store, so I’m learning how to fit it in with everything else I have to do. So, I drop whichever kid off at whatever activity and break all kinds of traffic laws to get to the store. I don’t spend a lot of time looking for a close spot. I can run faster than waiting for a spot to open up. I leave myself five minutes to check out (please, don’t let there be a line!) and I’m off. Watch out, little old ladies, here I come. I know just what I have to get and exactly where it is. I’ve done my price comparisons before when I had time, so I grab and go unless a really good sale catches my eye. My cart takes the corners on two wheels and I weave my way in and out of traffic. Nobody better block the aisle. I’m breathless as I approach the check out lane and throw my items on the conveyor belt. With time ticking away, I help the bag boy pack the groceries. My dad worked his way through college as a bag boy many years ago and I’ve learned from the master. I think I could teach these kids a thing or two. Whoever heard of putting all the cans in one bag?? And let’s pick up the pace. When its time to pay, I drum my fingers as I wait for my charge card to be accepted. Then I fly to the parking lot, shove the bags into the van and I’m off, arriving back to pick up whichever child just one minute late. Whew! I’m getting it down to a science. Well, I have this adventure ahead of me today, so I’m off to make my list! Happy shopping everyone.
