This past week our family took a camping trip to Perrot State Park in western Wisconsin, along the Mississippi River. Hey, if you ever have a drought, just call us. We’ll set up our camper in your backyard and we guarantee relief. Every time we camp, it rains. This trip was no exception. We arrived and got set up, but no sooner had D lit the grill for dinner than the heavens opened. It poured and poured. Thunder, lightning, wind – we had it all. For a time I wondered if the Mississippi had been diverted through out campsite. I’m sure the boys could have put a line in and caught something! We woke up the next morning to dark, threatening skies. We went to rent canoes, but the ranger showed us the radar – the entire state of Minnesota was covered in red. On to Plan B – shopping and a drive through Amish country. You know how disappointed I was about that 🙂 The weather finally cleared the following day and we managed our trip – the girls in a canoe and the boys in a kayak. I did pretty well steering the canoe by myself, only ending up in the trees once. By then, I had B along to help me paddle. As we got tangled in the branches, J began to scream. She has this phobia about plants. Otherwise, she seemed to enjoy her ride, leaning over the edge of the boat and talking about the “milk”. Right now, any liquid is milk! Now I have to dig myself out of the piles of laundry, if I can find the washer in there somewhere.
